MINT Horse Racing was established by Michael Shemeld and Grant Schubert in 2025. Mates for more than 13 years after a chance encounter at a coffee shop with their newborns, it was evident that happiness with family and friends were certainly core to their beliefs. They share and have built a mutual respect for each other over the years, both still priding themselves on their country kid upbringing for providing them with a strong work ethic and work life balance.

 

The thrill of your racehorse passing the post in first place is hard to explain. Having been involved in syndications for many years, Michael and Grant know that experiencing it with friends, family and fellow racing enthusiasts is even more special. Both sharing a love and passion for the industry of thoroughbred racing and horse ownership, it was only natural they took the next step to becoming outright owners themselves.

 

Michael is from a family farming pedigree with history dating back to 1921 in the Central Wheatbelt of WA. He moved to Perth in 2002, worked with operating machinery for several years before changing careers away from shift work to accommodate a better family work/life balance. This move in 2010 across to a Sales & Management role provided an opportunity to refine his customer service and management skills ensuring that clients’ needs and expectations aren’t just met but exceeded with friendly advice and communication.

 

Grant spent nearly a decade playing hockey with the Australian Men’s Team (The Kookaburras) where he established himself as a key member of the team, achieving ultimate success winning Gold at the 2004 Athens Olympics. This was then backed up with Gold at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne 2006, Bronze in Beijing 2008 and topped off with World Cup Gold 2010 in India. Since retiring from hockey in 2012, he’s been working in real estate where client satisfaction and communication are always front and centre of negotiations.
